APEC DISGRACE

I can't believe the crap that Sydney people are going to have to put up with over the next two weeks to hold the APEC meeting. $440 million in tax payer dollars is going to be spent running this thing, never mind the 100s of millions that businesses will lose due to no-one being able to walk past their shops. No wonder they'll have protests au-go-go, I'd be fucking protesting too if I couldn't get to my regular shop for a coffee or lunch, because it's behind a steel 15 foot high fence.
Why Sydney is my question!! What the fuck was Canberra built for? Exactly this type of overblown bullshit.
Bush is bringing 850 people with him in 5 plane loads, what will they all be doing the whole time?
The NSW government were so worried about the protests that they bought that $600,000 water cannon. Why not just hold the meeting away from every main population centre. How many protesters would've been bothered to fly or drive to Kalgoorlie to protest, not many I'm reckoning, plus the entourages would have more to look at, all 4000 of them. No that would be too easy, better to effectively close down the biggest city in the country for 2 weeks.
I think Howard knows his days are numbered, so he's given a great big "Fuck You Australia, I'm leaving, but I'm taking you all down with me".
Fare thee well you fucking Munchkin!!!!!

Despite the amount of poverty in the world, there always seems to be enough money for a Heads of Government meeting or a royal wedding.

It's obscene what we waste money on, yet can't seem to find enough to feed and clothe the people.

If governments started worrying more about the people they govern instead of holding office (and I mean all countries, especially those in charge of desperately poor populations) then the world would be far better off.

Howard is going out swinging (or should that be spending??). His days of lying and misleading the public are hopefully over.

I'll join the chorus here. Complete waste of money. I also question whether they know the difference between protesters and terrorists.

Wouldn't it have been easier to host it on an aircraft carrier in the middle of the Pacific?

I think that's the trouble with trying to stop terrorism. How do you know what's going to happen.

If a bunch of funny some of the time comedians can get through 2 checkpoints under the watchful eye of the cops, what hope of grabbing terrorists who would no doubt do their business by stealth?

I'm not saying that we shouldn't try and stop it, but clearly building walls and throwing a shit load of cops at the issue doesn't work.
