Is anyone surprised that Australia lost the Ashes? Everyone was potting the team from the moment they left - Lee shouldn't have gone, Hussey didn't deserve to be there on form, Watson (the Clayton's allrounder) isn't a cricketer's asshole, how does Hauritz get a game anywhere, let alone for my country? Brad Hodge and Jason Kreja would have put up a better effort than these spuds and we wouldn't be crying over a shithouse series loss, Ponting would be a hero and the selectors would have some job security.
Hilditch MUST go as Chairman of Selectors, Merv Hughes has hardly covered himself in glory either. It's pretty simple, if players don't perform, they're out, the same has to go for the selectors.

Lee didn't end up playing anyway. Watson perfromed OK with the bat (he was pretty much only selected to bat). Hauritz is better than Krezja. Otherwise spot on Bowie.
The selectors have been fortunate in that they haven't had to make any "hard" decisions for years due to Australia having a wealth of talent and some once a generation players all playing at once and also coinciding with the rest of the world all slumping.
Now that they have to because all those good players have retired or are at the end of their career they have been found wanting.
Bottom line, cricket will be a more even competiton for a while until Australia gets it's act together again.
P.S - Hey Bowie, what's your take on global warming and other "big" issues? Or is it only crappy cricket teams, dead koalas and Nathan Buckley going soft that gets up your goat?
