I'm sure we all hope we falls on his ass after the hamfisted way this has come about. Essendon are kidding themselves if they think he is the answer to their prayers. When you start choosing coaches based on keeping your members happy, you're in more trouble than you know.

No one will be happier than me when this clutching at straws gambit blows up spectacularly.
The untouchable James Hird soon becomes very very vulnerable and I know of many thousands of opposition supporters will revel in his mediocrity if/when he fails. Tall poppy syndrome at its best but just to see him finally mess up!!!! Will see the Bombers moored to the foot of the ladder for many years to come. Camo
Hird is an ornament to the game. A courageous and exceptional footballer, highly intelligent, and a sound businessman. How he goes as a coach will be interesting. My guess is blokes like him are successful at whaatever they do. So I'm expecting him to do ok.
Essendon need to something about their scheissen list if Hird is going to be a decent coach. This move seems to be purely to please the members but will they go to just see the coach?
