I can't get my head around what Robert Doyle actually does yet. Yes, he's the Lord Mayor of Melbourne, but as far as I can see has no actual power to do anything. This doesn't stop him coming up with stupid, unrealistic suggestions for the city. His latest is piece of dickheadery - he wants the NRL Grand Final to be played at the MCG next year.
“It’s not my role to approach the NRL and I’m not venue manager at the MCG. It would need State Government support but if that is the approach to the NRL, we’d be delighted to support it," Cr Doyle said today. i.e. no power, no influence, no idea.
He's forgetting one relatively important little thing, that Telstra Stadium (or whatever it's called now) has a contract with the NRL to host the Grand Final which runs for another 2 years.
I'd suggest he stick to whatever it is he gets paid for and keep his dumb-ass opinions on things to himself.
